Where older methods sometimes traded longevity for a document’s original texture and color, newer approaches aim to preserve both.

For a collection like ours, spanning well over a century of paper, ink, and photographic processes, that flexibility matters. Not every item ages the same way, and treating them all identically has never been the right approach.

The goal, as always, isn’t just to keep these materials intact — it’s to keep them usable for the researchers, students, and family members who come looking for them.
